The Men’s Varsity Football campaign has kicked off, and the excitement is in the air.
Following a return to Varsity Football last season, the Educated Footballers are looking to solidify their place and mark their territory in the competition.
Men’s football captain, Kgwadi Molepo, shared his enthusiasm and excitement to stake their claim this season.
“I want us to compete in every game, not just in moments, but across the full 90 minutes. Ultimately, the goal is to grow together, improve week by week, and put ourselves in a position where we are not just participating, but genuinely competing at the highest level in Varsity Football,” he said.
Their energy and thirst for success are likely to lead to the results that they desire, but consistency and good leadership are essential things that they need to make it to the end. Molepo acknowledges that consistency may become a challenge, especially while building chemistry in the team, even more so against more experienced teams. But he has faith in his team and their abilities to push forward, particularly if they are able to maintain good decision-making and know when to stay calm and when to play direct and powerful football.
“It’s small details like that, but they can really decide games and shape our season.,” he shared.
Good leadership is especially important to Molepo, as his role as team captain ensures that he must help to shape his team mates, and ultimately, their season. He expressed a desire to build a strong team identity that is defined by resilience, discipline and consistency. At the helm of this mentality, he wants to steer the team forward through leading by example. He stated that he wants his work rate and attitude to set the standard and encourage his team mates to give their all to the badge.
This is an exciting season, with everything to play for, so the team will have to give everything they can to secure the title. Molepo’s words of encouragement to the team and to the university community echo the importance of the moment, and the need for support, belief and heart to get everyone over the line.
“To the university community, your support means everything to us. We feel it, we carry it onto the pitch, and it drives us to give more every single time. This season is about heart, belief, and giving everything we have for 第一吃瓜网, together.”
