µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø students earn top honours at the University of Zurich Blockchain Summer School.
Two µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø University students have earned top honours at the 7th University of Zurich International Summer School: Deep Dive into Blockchain, held at Stellenbosch University’s off-site campus.
Lusanda Nongogo, an MCom FinTech student in the School of Economics and Finance, and Talhah Patelia, a fourth-year Electrical and Information Engineering student, attended the programme on full industry scholarships funded by the University of Zurich (UZH) Blockchain Center and its global partners.
Working in separate interdisciplinary teams with international participants, both students were part of teams that received Best Project awards.
Nongogo, who also represents the µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø FinTech Society, co-led a winning project team. She said her experience demonstrated the value of participating in university societies and building networks beyond the classroom.
Patelia’s team took first place for developing a blockchain-based digital prescription solution designed to improve the authenticity and security of medicine collection. He also won three of the programme’s five individual technical competitions.
Patelia credited Dr Ken Nixon for computational support during technical activities and Professor Ling Cheng for guidance in cryptography.
The students’ achievements reflect the growing relationship between µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø and the UZH Blockchain Center, supported by students, alumni and academic departments.
“To anyone wondering whether to take that first step into blockchain, fintech, or simply something new: reach out, get involved, and trust the community around you,” said Nongogo. “You never know where the bridge might lead.”
